Description:
The Avenue of Trees, planted from Meyer Boulevard to 75th Street, once represented elms as living memorials to the 440 sons and one daughter of Kansas City, Missouri who died in World War I. The Gateway entrance, an architectural feature of stone wall and pillars, consists of four bronze memorial tablets identifying the war dead. Just south of the Gateway is a flagpole marked “Kansas City Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution to honor K.C. heroes, the World War 1914-1918, Dedicated Armistice Day, 1940.
