Ground Breaking for Facilities Renovation and New Storage Building Construction

Kansas City Community Gardens (KCCG) is launching a two-phased building renovation and new storage facility construction. The goal of the renovation project is to enhance KCCG’s capacity to educate, mobilize, and support Kansas City’s gardeners. KCCG’s educational workshop program trains Kansas City’s community, school, and home gardeners at no cost to successfully grow fresh fruits and vegetables. The new Education Center will expand seating capacity for these training sessions from a maximum of 50 to a maximum of approximately 80 people. The new training space will allow KCCG to host more “hands-on” demonstration workshops on topics such as healthy cooking, building a grow light unit, and creating a planting plan. KCCG provides training in basic garden skills, as well as advanced and specialized topics such as The Giving Grove’s stewardship trainings for orchard care.

Kansas City Community Gardens is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of low-income households and other members of the community by helping them grow their own nutritious fruits and vegetables. KCCG member gardeners develop self-reliance, knowledge about nutrition, and an appreciation for the environment, while enjoying exercise, social interaction, and the satisfaction of growing their own food.
