The Kansas City, Missouri Public Works Department is holding an open house to gather public input on options to improve the Paseo Bridge over Brush Creek. While structurally sound, the bridge is showing its age. The open house will present several options to address maintenance issues and enhance the bridge’s aesthetics, while ensuring it is pedestrian-friendly and reflects the community’s vision for the corridor. Parking is available in the lots north and south of the community center.

The City of Kansas City, Mo., is advising motorists that many streets will be temporarily closed on Saturday, Oct. 19 from about 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accommodate the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon.
As the marathon progresses, the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department will close and re-open streets as necessary. Motorists seeking cross-town, north-to-south routes on the west side of the marathon are advised to use Broadway Boulevard, Southwest Trafficway or I-35. Motorists seeking cross-town, north-to-south routes on the east side are advised to take Bruce R. Watkins Drive (U.S. Highway 71).
Starting at Grand Boulevard and Pershing Road, the marathon route is as follows: north on Grand Boulevard, west on 12th Street; south on Baltimore Avenue; east on 20th Street; south on Main Street; west on Pershing Road; south on Kessler Road; loop around the Liberty Memorial Mall; south on Wyandotte Street; east on 31st Street; south on Main Street; southwest on Westport Road; south on Roanoke Parkway; east on 47th Street; south on the Paseo Boulevard; west on Volker Boulevard; north on Brookside Boulevard; west on Ward Parkway to just east of the state line; east on Ward Parkway; southwest on Sunset Drive; east on 54th Street; north on Belleview Avenue; east on 52nd Terrace; south on Summit Street; west on 58th Terrace; north on Belleview Avenue; northwest on 57th Terrace; south on Ward Parkway; east on 75th Street; north on Wornall Road; west on Meyer Boulevard; northeast on Brookside Boulevard; east on Volker Boulevard; north on Paseo Boulevard; west on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard; north on Troost Avenue; west on Brush Creek Boulevard; north on Harrison Street; northwest on Gillham Road; northeast on Harrison Parkway; north on Harrison Boulevard; east on Armour Boulevard; north on The Paseo; west on 18th Street; and south on McGee Street to finish at Pershing Road.
In addition, Grand Boulevard from 11th to 12th streets; 11th Street from Grand Boulevard to Oak Street; and Oak Street from 11th to 18th streets also will be closed to accommodate the event’s 5K route. Please observe caution and obey all posted detours and barricades.
Two adorable four-month old red panda cubs are exploring their exhibit while a watchful mom is nearby. Growing by leaps and bounds, they are now over 4 pounds each, at birth they were less than four ounces.
Their agility skills are still being defined as they cling tightly to the tree limbs within the exhibit. These two boys, Ru and Junjie, are now learning to eat solid food. Biscuits soaked in apple juice are their favorite.

The Inspired by Darell Sublett 5K will begin on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Centennial United Methodist Church at 1834 Woodland Ave. Road closures take place from about 7:30-10 a.m. on the following race route: east on 19th Street; south on Brooklyn Avenue; west on 21st Street; north on Garfield avenue; west on 20th Street; south on Euclid Street; east on 21st Terrace; south on Garfield; west on 22nd Street; north on Forest Avenue; west on 17th Street; north on Troost Avenue; east on Truman Street; south on Woodland Avenue to finish at the church. Running with the Angels – The Chad Rogers Memorial Run will begin on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Shoal Creek Community Church, 6816 N. Church Road. Road closures will take place from about 7:30-10 a.m. along the run’s 5K route: north on Fulton Road, which turns into North Stark Avenue; east on Northeast 76th Street; and north on North Flintlock Road to Northeast 82nd Terrace. The Bill Cross Run/Walk for Back Snack 5K will take place in Zona Rosa on Sunday, Oct. 13 from about 8-10 a.m. During the race, all Zona Rosa entrances/exits will be closed, although Zona Rosa employees, residents and customers will be permitted access when there is a break in runners/walkers. 2 p.m. NE 32nd and Swift, North Kansas CityThe City of Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation and the City of North Kansas City have developed a partnership for the creation of a dog park in the City of North Kansas City. The planned dog park will be developed in a 4-acre parcel and will, in the future, have the following amenities: parking lot, two separated fenced in areas, a shelter, drinking fountain and crushed stone trail.
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is notifying motorists that one bicycle tour and two races will temporarily affect traffic on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Although the Tour de BBQ bicycle tour will only close Grand Boulevard and Walnut Street between 13th and 14th streets, it may cause delays along the rest of the route. Cyclists will begin their ride in the Kansas City Power and Light District at 7 a.m. leaving in waves of 100-150 riders every 10 minutes along the following race route: south on Grand Boulevard, which curves into Main Street, which becomes Brookside Boulevard; east on 62nd Street; south on Main Street; west on 85th Street; south on Wornall Road; west on 90th Street; north on Western Hills Drive; west on 89th Street; southeast on Ward Parkway; south on Summit Street; and west on Bannister Road across the state line. The route re-enters Kansas City, Mo., as the cyclists cross the state line heading east on 135th Street, north on Holmes Road; and west on Blue Ridge Boulevard, across the state line. Cyclists will re-enter Kansas City, Mo., heading northeast on Southwest Boulevard; east on 19th Street; and north on Walnut Street to finish at the Power and Light District. The Barstow School 5K will begin on the school grounds at 11511 State Line Road. Road closures take place beginning at 7:30 a.m. along the route: north on State Line Road, east on 114th Terrace, north on Madison Avenue, north on 113th Terrace, east on 112th Street and north on Summit Street. At that point the runners will turn around, and follow the same route back to Barstow School. The Center School District Homecoming 5K will begin on the school grounds at 8715 Holmes Road. One lane of traffic will be closed from 8-10 a.m. on the following route: south on Holmes Road, east on 89th Street and north into the Center High School grounds. At that point the runners will turn around and follow the same route back, heading west on 89th Street and north on Holmes Street to finish at the school.
